The 1st Academic Board Meeting Held Online 

The 1st Academic Board meeting of Istanbul Circle: Society for Multiplex Research was held online with the participation of senior academics from all over the world. The main purpose of the session was to present the overall idea of the Society and its vision and goals to its board members. The primary investigator of the project Recep Senturk started off the session welcoming all the participants and introducing the academic board members and project team. A brief presentation on the origins of the Society and its proposed activities followed. Prof. Senturk underlined the crucial role that the board will occupy in the progress of the Society.

After the presentation, the Board members gave feedback on what was presented and shared their initial suggestions.

Istanbul Circle: Society for Multiplex Research is established as part of the “Islamic Thought and its Implication on Current Sociological Inquiry: A Multiplex Research Project”. 

The society will serve as a network for international academics and ‘ulama interested in crafting an alternative approach to the social sciences. It will operate as a platform for collaboration in spreading the idea of multiplexity and to provide occasions for intellectual interchange and critical discussions. The society will promote joint effort among social scientists, philosophers, and ulema who are concerned with the philosophical foundations of the social sciences and are actively in communication with others from different cultures but with the same concerns.   

The academic advisory board is the senior academic committee currently consisting of the following eight experts in social sciences, philosophy, and traditional Islamic sciences to guide and support the work of the society:

  • Tahsin Görgün ( 29 Mayis University, Head of Philosophy Department)
  • Mohammad Hammour (Ibn Haldun University)
  • Wan Mohd Nor Wan Daud  (Founder-director at CASIS, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia)
  • Heba Raouf (Alliance of Civilizations Institute, Ibn Haldun University)
  • Zeeshan Ahmed  (Dean at Al-Qadir University Project Trust)
  • Hamza Yusuf  (President of Zaytuna College)
  • Amin Kholwadia (Founder and Director of Darul Qasim)
  • Alev Erkilet (Ibn Haldun University,  Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences School)

Board members are consulted on major decisions of the society and oversee the activities relative to their expertise. They will ensure that the society upholds the highest academic and ethical standards and principles.
